In this long essay from The Wall Street Journal, James Grant of Grant’s Interest Rate Observer remarks that the Federal Reserve “isn’t overtly manipulating” the gold market. His implication is that the Fed might be manipulating the gold market covertly. Maybe this is a small step in the right direction by someone who surely is erudite enough to know better already.

BCA: The US$ is not dead, just smells funny. Expect the trade weighted greenback to fall to fresh lows.

Not that there’s a link between the two, but as the legendary Peter Grandich celebrates his silver anniversary as a market commentator, he tells The Gold Report in this exclusive interview that having been left behind in the big run-up in gold, silver’s time has come to steal the limelight for a while.

Gold, small caps and the U.S. dollar have had a stable three-way relationship for the better part of the 2009 rally. Now the three could be parting ways.

The U.S. dollar is doing a fair impression of the late Rodney Dangerfield – it gets no respect. But the buck doesn’t need respect to rally hard in the wake of a major squeeze…
